Management Issues in Fulfilling the Mission of Catholic Health Care Organizations
On January 16, 2020 we held a Webinar on Management Issues in Fulfilling the Mission of Catholic Health Care Organizations. Rev. Dr. Mathew Abraham, C.Ss.R. MD (Director General at the Catholic Health Association of India), Rev. Robert McCulloch (Procurator General of the Missionary Society of St. Columban), and Felice Barela (President of the Campus Bio-Medico) were our guest speakers.
Rev. Dr. Mathew Abraham, C.Ss.R, MD, Director General at the Catholic Health Association of India. Founded in 1943 by Sr. Dr. Mary Glowrey, CHAI is today one of the largest not-for-profit associations in the health sector in the world, rendering accessible and affordable services to the marginalised in the medically underserved areas of India. CHAI has an expansive base of 3527 member institutions and treat over 21 million people in a year. CHAI is granted United Nations’ Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) since 1st August 2013.
Rev. Robert McCulloch, S.S.C., Procurator General of the Society of St. Columban. Robert McCulloch entered the Society of St. Columban in 1964. Since 1978 he has worked to increase the education and basic health care of the poor and mainly non-Christian people of the Diocese of Hyderabad in Pakistan. On 15 February 2012, the President of Pakistan approved conferment of the country’s highest civilian award on Father Robert McCulloch for his services to Pakistan in health and education.
Felice Barela, President of the Board of Directors of Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital in Rome. In 1988 Monsignor Àlvaro del Portillo suggested to some professionals and teachers the foundation of a University Hospital in Rome, to offer solutions to the reality of pain and illness, drawing on the Christian spirit of service. Among others, Felice Barela worked intensively with the preparatory work that led to the foundation of the Campus Bio-Medico University in 1993. In 2014 the University Hospital received the Joint Commission International accreditation, the independent body that certifies adherence to 300 standards of excellence in health care quality and safety recognized worldwide.
