On February 27, 2020 we held a Webinar of the Speaker Series "Stewards of Providence: Making the Resources of the Church Fruitful." 

Br. Tom Kearney, CFC, Senior Lecturer in the Tangaza University College Institute of Social Transformation (Kenya), and Ms. Doris Fernandez Ferrer, Executive Director of the Private Education Assistance Committee (Philippines) spoke about Management Issues in Fulfilling the Mission of Catholic Educational Institutes. 

ABSTRACT: Catholic Schools have an integral role to play and a precious service to render to the Church in Her mission of evangelization. However, in some parts of the world Catholic Schools have to face the image of being wrongly perceived as being part of a "foreign church". In other parts, where Christianity has a longer tradition, the challenges include secularization in culture, competition, changing nature of Church-State relations, human resources issues, financing. How can management competences help face these issues and achieve the mission of the Church in Catholic Educational systems?

Br. Tom Kearney has been a member of the Christian Brothers for 54 years, has background in education, spirituality and pastoral counseling. During the past 24 years in Africa he has been involved in teaching at Tangaza University College, especially in the areas of Spirituality, Religious Formation, Education, Psychology, and Human Development. In previous years he has been both the Dean and the Principal of Tangaza University College, Kenya, where he now serves as a Senior Lecturer and Board Chair of the Institute of Education.

Ms. Doris Fernandez Ferrer is the Executive Director of the Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC), the single biggest support group to private, Catholic schools in the Philippines. She is the former Executive Director of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP).
