I greet you from St Paul’s seminary, where we are trying to keep formation going.
We all in the Church are trying to keep the sacraments available as best as we can in this situation. But if there’s one thing we know about this crisis is that it’ll be over sometime, and there’s another side to the virus and there will be a joyous resurrection. We all look forward to that.
And it may be that in this situation you think “Well, education in Church management – that really does not interest us at this moment.” I think that would not be correct, because in times when resources get scarce, the faithful are more attentive to how we use their donations and they will really have an eye on accountability, transparency and good use of their resources. So keep up the good work, keep praying and try and receive the sacraments as well as you can. I look forward to seeing you on the other side of the virus.

Barbra Wall Mann, PhD, RN, FAAN, Professor of Nursing at University of Virginiaand Sr. Anne Falola, General Councillor of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of the Apostles, spoke about Holy Entrepreneurship: The Entrepreneurial Skills of the Missionary.
ABSTRACT: The Church is “missionary by nature. (...) Evangelizing is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity; she exists in order to evangelize” (Evangelii Nuntiandi.) “Mere administration can no longer be enough. Throughout the world, let us be permanently in a state of mission” (Evangelii Gaudium.) The Church is called to break away from the comfortable mentality and embrace the missionary spirituality of going to the ends of the earth like the early missionaries despite the challenges and problems of Mission. Given that this is not a human enterprise but Christ's enterprise, the Church's goal is to answer this call and be ready for it. What leadership and entrepreneurial skills may be beneficial in fulfilling this Mission? To what extent an “entrepreneurial mindset” is helpful for evangelization?
Barbra Wall Mann, PhD, RN, FAAN, Professor of Nursing at University of Virginia has focused her academic career on the history of Catholic sisters’ health care organizations especially in mission territories. Her award-winning book, Unlikely Entrepreneurs: Catholic Sisters and the Hospital Marketplace, 1865-1925(Ohio State University Press, 2005,) integrates history and nursing practice to inform how America’s two-tiered, public-private approach to health delivery serves a diverse American populace. Dr. Wall's newest book, Into Africa: A Transnational History of Catholic Missions and Social Change (Rutgers University Press, 2015) explores the intersection of religion, medicine, gender, race, and politics in sub-Saharan Africa after World War II. Dr. Wall received her BS from the University of Texas at Austin, her MS in nursing from Texas Woman’s University, and earned a PhD in history from the University of Notre Dame.
Sr. Anne Falola is a missionary sister of Our Lady of Apostles (OLA.) She holds a B.Ed. in Guidance/Counselling and Masters in Christian Spirituality from Heythrop College, University of London. Her areas of missionary engagement include: teaching, pastoral and social work, inter/religious dialogue, and missionary animation. She has worked in Nigeria, her country, Argentina and briefly in the United Kingdom. She is currently a General Councillor in her Congregation and resides in Rome.

The Program of Church Management organized a webinar on The Church's Response to Covid-19 Global Crisis: Pastoral and Managerial Challenges.
Following the spread of Covid-19 globally, Churches of all denominations have started suspending services voluntarily, while others are being forced to do so by Government measures. In the Catholic Church, faithful lay, religious, and clergy are all looking for creative ways to provide spiritual support and access to sacraments. Pontifical University of the Holy Cross’s Program of Church Management brought together an international team for a webinar to address how to seize the crisis as an opportunity of grace and for grace to shine forth.
ABSTRACT: Catholic Schools have an integral role to play and a precious service to render to the Church in Her mission of evangelization. However, in some parts of the world Catholic Schools have to face the image of being wrongly perceived as being part of a "foreign church". In other parts, where Christianity has a longer tradition, the challenges include secularization in culture, competition, changing nature of Church-State relations, human resources issues, financing. How can management competences help face these issues and achieve the mission of the Church in Catholic Educational systems?
Br. Tom Kearney has been a member of the Christian Brothers for 54 years, has background in education, spirituality and pastoral counseling. During the past 24 years in Africa he has been involved in teaching at Tangaza University College, especially in the areas of Spirituality, Religious Formation, Education, Psychology, and Human Development. In previous years he has been both the Dean and the Principal of Tangaza University College, Kenya, where he now serves as a Senior Lecturer and Board Chair of the Institute of Education.
Ms. Doris Fernandez Ferrer is the Executive Director of the Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC), the single biggest support group to private, Catholic schools in the Philippines. She is the former Executive Director of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP).
